Default Is the D1 MAF sensor really $1,900 REALLY??

Just went an saw another 1998 D1 for sale here locally and she was selling it because the dealer said it needed a MAF. She was quoted 1900 buck for the MAF and 250 ish to install it. WOW are they really that expensive for the D1's?

I saw the DII's are a couple of hundred bucks but could not see any D1's listed.

No. The stealership saw her coming a mile away. A MAF will run ya a bit over $200, but more than likely can just be cleaned. DI MAF's are pretty robust and usually respond quite well to a good spray down with a $8 can of electical cleaner. If she's giving it away for a ridiculously low price because of the MAF, then jump on it. You'll be getting a hell of a deal that's a 5 minute fix (even if it needs replacement) Unsnap 2 clamps, unplug the connector, and remove. That's it. Someone should be jailed for charging $250 in labor for that. It's easier than changing oil!

What are the running symptoms? Did she just take it in to the stealer because it was getting crappy gas mileage - or was there something else amiss as well?

"DOUBLE DITTO"!!!
Try cleaning it first with MAF cleaner, only, if that doesn't work buy a new one from Rover Connection.

I found this http://www.roverlandparts.com/discov...w-sensors.aspx and $250 is way to much for a 5 min job...

and did I say ?????
This is as bad as a gent on another forum I frequent that was charged $700 this week for a $285 part and was raked for labor when install of the component takes less than 7 minutes to install.

It's a shame that dealerships have gotten so far out of hand and are ruining the owners experience and destroying marques by turning off customers.....

As the others have said on avgerage around $200 to $275 new. I found used as low as $49 delivered with a 90 day warranty..... Install takes less than 5 inutes with a screw driver to change.... Try cleaning in it first though with MAF cleaner (NOT carb, brake, or contact cleaner).
