Default D1 won't go into Park??

I was doing some back and forth movements with the Rover and then it would not go into Park. I haven't had a chance to look at it but want to know if anyone else had this issue ( so I know where to start). No grinding is happening..its just a dead stop with the shifter when I try to go into Park. Thanks for any info!

Some say to pop the top off the shifter and tighten the nut and that should do the trick.

Try this then check the linkage on the transmission make sure that everything is tight.

On Disco's I and II's the parking pin inside of the transmission is weak and can break if that happens nothing else will be effected, thats why on any incline its parking brake let off the brake then let the parking hold then into park so when you go to put in to drive there isno force on the parking pin.

I tried tightening thenut and now the truck won't budge into reverse either [:@]The nut is very loose but if you continue to tighten it, it just shoves the **** farther down the shaft. Haven't had a chance to look at the linkage closely I just glanced at it this morning...when I do get under there for a good look, what exactly am I looking for?

Just got under the Rover. I can manually move it through all the gears except for Reverse and Park by pulling on the linkage directly. Any ideas??

with the linkage off, does the shifter go into park?? you might have gotten something jammed into the shifter inside the console, coins or something

Yes..it goes into park with the linkage off. I'll dig around again tomorrow but I don't recall seeing anything to block it.
