You will see them parked on lawns and in junk yards. Like the D1’s now, they will only be driven by LR enthusiast and the occasional stray owner that just stuck with it. In 10 years both will be a rare sight on the road. Their value will never bring what RRC and D90 do. Enjoy them while you can and with others who share the same passion about them.

Correct, their value will increase. Will they ever command $30k+ in value..$60k? No. Will they fetch $15-20k, probably if they are in very good shape and low miles. I’ve been a LR enthusiast for 20 years but the truth is the Discovery’s aren’t on the collectors list. I’ve owned two and plan on buying another. Every time I see a D1 on the road I freak out and want to follow it, lol.
I like Defenders and I like RRC's, but the D1/D2 has always been my favorite. They have beautiful body lines, and it compliments the Defender Body & RRC Body very well. It's also the main vehicle LR really used in the Camel Trophy (Yes they had Defender Support vehicles and a year with RRC and Series LR, but overall the D1 ruled the roost).
I've seen A LOT of vehicles go from clunkers to classics or cheap cars to expensive cars. I'm honestly already seeing clean D2's in the 10-20K range. Add 10 more years to that and it will be more no doubt. Mileage in 10 years = means nothing as we all know the engines will have been well maintained, frames will have to be in non rust bucket states, and most will be garage kept.

I have noticed over the last 4 years the decrease of discos for sale on Craigslist. The herd is thinning out. I do think they will be sought after someday. I had a beautiful FJ 40 Land cruiser that I wish I had kept. They go for about 40k now and honestly they are junk. 40 years ago when I was a kid I traded an old motorcycle for a rough 59 Corvette. I just got around to working on it last year. But 40 years ago it was just an old junker. Something about the D2 especially with women is timeless. They are a classic.

This has been impressive. I’ve often wondered if there is any other vehicle like the disco where 99% of the ones offered for sale are fatally flawed. I check CL at least everyday for Discos out of curiosity and a desire to find an SD rack for mine. It is literally 1 out of 100 that is a truck that I would want to buy. Every other one has a blown engine, coolant leaks, a shot frame, a destroyed interior (which indicates how it was maintained overall), or a list of electrical issues a mile long. Basically every one has, or might as well have, ‘mechanics special’ in the title. But, it looks like the wreckers are claiming most of those now and it is quickly becoming a rarity to see one pop up locally at all. I still think it will be awhile before the prices climb enough to make us happy. It took forever for series and fj40 prices to raise to a high level. And even now you still see really nice series rovers for 20-25k. And even on BaT a super nice ‘driver’ fj40 I would have loved sold for like 16 grand recently. And for a weekend vehicle, the ‘cool factor’ on those blow the d2 put of the water.
