Not possible, the last D2 was registered in 2004.

If you check under the hood there is a plate with actual year of manufacture which in most/many cases is one year earlier than the year of registration, e.g. a 2003 registered D2 in 2003 was actually manufactured in 2002. Usually they were sitting in a field somewhere before delivery to the main agents.

Last year for DII is 2004, 2005 it's a LR3. Just run the VIN and you will confirm the year/make/model. Also look at the sticker/decal in the drivers door to see the build date (see pic).

If the title says 2005 have the owner correct the mistake BEFORE you buy it! Good Luck

Here is a 2005 LR3 > https://parkersburg.craigslist.org/cto/6046308898.html

I'm sure it could be racked up to old man memory. He may have bought in '05 if he bought it new.

It could also be one of those super rare Eddie Bauer Edition D2's that I've seen on CL....

That VIN chart is interesting, but perhaps not completely accurate. Mine starts SALTY but apparently it should be SALTW.

I can't tell you how many Rovers I've bought over the years where the owner insisted that it's a particular model year and were wrong. Most of the time it's because the plate on the front door might have a build date of 7/03 or something like that. People don't understand that vehicles are often build months in advance of their model year release date. I had a brand new '94 RRC that was built in 6/93 but it was a '94 model year Range Rover.

X1.......................... mine says and is advertised as a 2003, BUT, on the under hood plate it clearly states September 2002 but it's a defo 2003 model, go figure that . As Paul rightly states, like all vehicles, they are built and stored well in advance of their sale and registration dates. By the time they arrive in the US prior to registration they could be anything up to 9-12 months old.
