What do you think guys?
Based on what he said I assume the cooling system is messed up but the price is cheap.

That's a steal. Comes with a low mile 4.6 engine, gasket kits, extra parts. Holy cow. You might just be able to replace the soft plugs and fix the cooling system if your lucky, and still have an extra motor.
He is saying that I need to tow it or it will overheat. What is a leaking freeze plug?
Just me again. Dont bother. Wait until you see one thats running. It will cost you more with those external broken items. The big question is, will you be able to make it run even having a spare but different engine? You are buying a problem truck, thats why he bought a spare engine coz theres something wrong with the other and plus its a different engine. Oh, man, you just dont know how much is left with that 180k miles truck. Until it runs, that the only time youll here some mystery clunk somewhere. Your budget is for something that is running. Not this bro.
this was a good decision. If u are going to tackle a project, find one that is not running, and drop a long block in from turner, toddco etc. Have your friends shop do the work.
Have you checked with salvage sites?

I don't know I would buy one with a stock engine, but that is just me. I think either way with his budget, he could do either and have a nice truck.
True. With these trucks ranging from 160 miles up, a running truck is better. Even people here in the forums who maintained their trucks religiously still get problems and at times mysterious and hard to solve. I just saw on facebook, this guy bought a very nice clean 2004 silver discovery from a dealer and later found out after driving home for 60 miles at 65mph that the transmission has a big hole and crack, the previous owner broke the drive shaft and traded in the disco.
All said, a non working discovery is never a good project to start with, people who buy them at that price are usually a parts truck to save another rover. Its just for the OP, we dont want him get stuck on a project, just the tools alone and time to rebuild it will cost him more. The original owner replaced head gasket and all but freeze plug? Huh.

I'll pass on it
