Default D2 whining

Okay, maybe i am being paranoid but my Landy whines quite a bit when accelerating and even while just constantly on the throttle. It seems to go up in pitch with RPMS, so something tells me it may be the tranny but i suppose other things spin with RPM speed. It sounds like a bad power steering pump but it doesn't happen with the turn on the wheel, just the RPM Speed.

Thanks for any help!

Does it make the sound while accelerating from 0-10 mph and then stop? And as speed builds the whining elevates pitch?

You can take a screw driver and put the handle to your ear and move it around and touch metal things on the engine. You are probably looking at idler pulleys, water pump, or alternator. Do it with the engine running and be careful not to touch the fan.

You could also remove your belt and spin each pulley. Check for any play or roughness.

It is defiantly coming from underneath the vehicle, right at the rear of the oil pan.

Does it do it when you are in park and rev the engine?

Yes it does do it in park,

I have serviced the tranny about 2000 miles ago, with a fluid and filter change. I have not yet done the transfer case, i have the parts to rebuild the driveshaft, and will be doing it this weekend.

alright jason if it does it in park then it has to be somthing on the front of the engine pulley ect. take the belt off and turn all the pulleys and check for play/wobble.also the alternators tend to whine a little on these trucks take a screwdriver and with the engine running put it up to the case of alternator carefully put your ear to the butt of the driver and see if you hear your whine
