Mine is an '02 C2 Coupe. I'm at 60K with no IMS issue using Mobil1 with 3K mile oil changes. Engine is tight and sound -- have you had any trouble?

I just got mine in November '15 with 75k. So far, no issues. Dealer I got it from put a new thermostat in it. I did oil change, filters. engine mounts and a wheel bearing. Basic maintainence and its been great. Used Mobil 1 at forums recommendation but I think I might switch to Rotella T6 5w40. So far, no troubles. Dealer did the IMS at 30k under warranty.

Also running T6 in the Discovery.

Nice. After the Rover rebuild I'm planning to run T6 and Evans Cooling waterless coolant in the Discovery. Some of the guys on Rennlist have been talking up the Joe Gibbs oil which seems like a quality product but is way overpriced. I never considered T6 for the 996 because of the difference between the 5W and 0W but agree the synthetic formulation with ZDDP would probably be agreeable with the 3.6L. I've been adding Rislone ZDDP which costs less than five bucks for 16 ounces to the Mobil1 0W-40 which I get on sale at Wal-Mart (yes, I'm cheap) and things have been okay. So far.

Completely agreed but the Rennlist crowd like to argue and I hate arguing anymore...

I figured, I run the Rover year round with 5W40, why not the 996. Not gonna run it this winter, to many rock chips...

Nothing wrong with being cheap, or as my mother in law called it, cost effective. couple of buddies with high mileage dailies swear by Liquid Moly anti-friction
https://www.amazon.com/Liqui-Moly-20...1016832&sr=1-7

think I'm gonna try that one out for both vehicles next.

The Liqui-Moly is about $8 for 300ml but hey, it's German so maybe the car would like that better than Rislone.

Anyway, I'm probably going to stick with the Mobil1 0W-40 since (1) it is the brand that Porsche recommends (2) it is the weight that Porsche recommends, and (3) I can get 5Q jugs for about $23 each from Wally World. Adding Liqui-Moly will probably replace my routine of adding ZDDP, however, so thanks for that.

I'm not a Porsche guy, but I'm a big fan of Prolong, which is another friction modifier. It has significantly smoothed out every engine I've put it in. My Disco is so smooth it's hard to tell it's running with the radio on.

You can get it by the gallon on Amazon.
