Default Dash/ Instrument panel light is not working in 02 Disco

My 2002 Disco dash/ instrument panel light is not working along with light that indicate which gear the shifter is in. My headlights, turn signals, fog lights work fine. I have checked all the fuses and none are blown. In the past couple of years, this has occasionally happened, but when I turned the car on and off, the problem was fixed. I am not so lucky this time. It has persisted for a week now and is a safety concern. I have researched other posts on the LR Forum and a corroded ground sounds like a possibility. However, I do not know where that ground is. Any help with that idea or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Assuming your light setting is on high for the dash, then I would say you have a failing head light switch.

Check your drivers side rear tail light for water inside it.
The seal leaks and water gets inside, corrodes the wiring and wreaks all kind of havoc.

Your dimmer switch may be bad also, but check the rear tail light first.

Thanks for the advice guys. Here is one other thing I discovered last night. When I turn on my Disco, the light around the gear shift indicating which gear I am in is illuminated. As soon as I turn my parking lights or headlights, that light goes out. It clearly appears to be related. Yes, my dimmer dash switch is on high.

Assuming it is a failing headlight switch, can you recommend a good parts website? What sort of time should a project like this take, assuming moderate knowledge of Disco?

Thanks!

www.autosportsunlimited.com, they are in Zeeland so you can save on shipping.

The headlight switch is a fairly easy DIY.
Also check www.roverlandparts.com and www.atlanticbritish.com

Sorry - am a newby....I just purchased a 98 Discovery II !! and finally took it for an evening drive -- headlights work, but the instrument panel light(s) don't -- dimmer doesn't do anything. The Right rear tail light and bumper light is out -- in reading these replys could they be "connected" problems ?? Thanks - ron ron@sunstatesavings.com

I'm having this issue and it looks as though I have definitely had water in my driver side taillight. What is the solution to this problem?
