can you get at the starter motor to connect a charger and get the battery charged back up? Didn't know a dead batt can cause a lock out-assumed was just a mechanical linkage..My disco came with a damaged spare door-will have to examine that mechanism...

The key in the door should unlock regardless of voltage.

Unless you 1)super locked the vehicle or 2)the lock is non-op/broken

You sure? Car was not super locked that I'm aware and key functioned normally prior to this. I ask because using the key in the door never felt like there was enough resistance to be moving anything mechanical.

No.

The lock is not (directly) mechanical.

The only thing the key does is close an electrical switch that grounds a circuit, which in turn signals the BCU to activate the door unlock motors. Insufficient voltage = no door lock or unlock.

the pin may have snapped? It is a pretty common problem. Door lock should definitely work with a dead battery.
