Default Decided to paint my wheels...

The brake dust was so caked on...I ended up ruining the finish on the wheels..no biggy. Went with a metallic gun metal and clear coat...it looks better than the pic. Its definitly different but I'm digging it.

Thanks...I think the gun metal gives it more of a rugged look. Hoping to finish it tomorrow.. weather permiting.

Wow is right! That looks great! What kind of paint is it and how did you apply it? I would love to do that but i'm worred it will crack and fade, do you think they will do that after a while? Getting them powder coated is not the $$$$ i want to spend right now, and if that works, i'm doing it too.

I've done it 3 ways in the past with the cars I have had. I have a compressor and paint gun and I used it on the wheels for my first Mustang ( I think I used Auto Air paint)...it turned out really well and lasted. The second time around (2nd Mustang)...I used Duplicolor Wheel Paint (spray paint) from Advance Auto with Duplicolor Wheel Clear Coat (also spray can)...it was a lot easier than having to deal with the gun and it lasted until I sold the car last year...here's a shot of the wheels..I did them back to a stock look but they had a bit of metallic in them

I was so happy with it..its what I used on the Rover. I think its all about the prep...I sanded and cleaned..sanded and cleaned....... In a few months..I'm going to have the tires changed out so I'll let you know how it holds up through that. I know some tire places can be rough on wheels. I had them scratch up a set of anthracite wheels so this should be a good test.

You have convinced me to paint mine. I have been thinking about painting my 18's for a few weeks now and I think it looks great. I was even thinking of painting the same color. Nice job!

Thanks! Just be sure to spend a lot of time on the prep. and use thin coats.

I used to race my little BMW and painted both sets of rims with that stuff and it was awesome. Works very well for the pricetag...
