2003 Discovery Series II Oil Pump Failures

Situation

Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a

manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting

assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing

which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure.

Resolution

Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range

the

assembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.

We own an 04, bought new, serviced at the dealership for everything needed. We have had major trannie problems and now it needs a new short block. (they say) Yes it is out of warranty, but it was not when the problems started. They claim they are not the cause, but they did not do the work requested. We are dealing with the dealership and LRNA trying to get the new engine paid for. Research, research, research. I still love it, but I cannot afford the repairs.

 

What happened with the transmission? Did the double cardon fail and take it out?
