Mike, All, I did another drain and refill with Castrol Dex/Merc last weekend, and I added a bottle of the Lucas Trans fix,......No change,...still have the slow/hanging 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

A 705 is a transmission range sensor input low.
If you turn your key to the second position does your CEL come on for a couple of seconds? Does the shift improve if you drive in Sport Mode?

 

Does the delayed shifting happens only in a cold morning, or also after full warmup ?

 

MIKE, The CEL light does come on and stay on in the second (clockwise from full off) key position. I've been switching back and forth between sport and regular modes,.....I don't see a difference in shifting "hang time" between the modes.

EXTERNET: I HAVE noticed that the trans does shift far better in the first minute or two of driving,.....when it is still cold.

I currently have NO codes, no lights, and no pending codes.

SNAFU/Disco Fries: I added a bottle of the Lucas Transmission Fix in my last (second) drain and refill,.......it made NO DIFFERENCE.

I bet your fluid level is low.
You do realize you need to FILL IT in "N" with the fricking engine running from underneath?

Don't blame me.
But that is how you gotta do it.

If the engine is OFF, you will not have enough in there and the pressure is LOWER as the transmission pump has to raise the fluid a few inches from the SUMP.

 

Yeah, I burned my arm pretty good on the second drain and refill. I was too lazy to go inside and put on a long sleeve shirt............won't do that again. I didn't do it in neutral though,......I did it in park,.....then every time it started to stream out of the fill hole,...I hopped in the truck, and put it in each and every gear for 20-30 seconds,.....then back underneath to pump in more fluid,.....By the time I get done with all that, things are getting pretty hot underneath,....and A/C condensation is hitting the exhaust pipe, then dripping on me, plus the now hot tranny fluid streaming out,.......It's quite a perplexing and potentially messy job. Next time, I will turn off the A/C on the truck,...and put on a long sleeve shirt for sure.

did you change the filter or just drain and refill the transmission?

 

Just a dain and refill,...twice now and adding the Lucas Trans fix the second time.

 

With that mileage your filter may be partially clogged and restricting fluid flow.


I had a solenoid issue with another vehicle and after letting it sit overnight with the battery disconnected it cleared up. Just a thought.

 

You need to change the TX filter every 30K miles. If the truck is new to you change it anyway. The LR main stealerships service people NEVER change the filters in the UK as part of the services which they should. On all my autobox's if the ATF oil looks brownish or smells burnt or odd I always change it regardless of mileage. I have noticed on the very cold mornings here (minus 1-5C) where the cars have been outside all night that the autobox changes are a bit sluggish probably due to the ATF being thicker. Also there is a temperature sensor between the engine temperature and gearbox actuation on many cars until the engine reaches working temperature.
