Default desperare measures

My disco is my only ride. It appears my rebuilt front driveshaft is trash and the front output shaft on the t-case is on the way out. If I remove the front shaft with the CDL engaged... what kind of driving will I get??

I'm basicly pushing it while I rebuild the shaft, and find another t-case to swap.

I drove 15 hours from the bottom west corner of Virginia to my home in Northern Vermont in rear wheel drive, you will be fine.

Fantastic! Thank you. I drove 500 miles with a faulty driveshaft ... nearly had a heart attack when this price of metal hit my windshield... I was so releaved it wasn't the drive shaft that I didn't mind the broken window -.-

Ok I got the driveshaft off. I didn't install this myself, I've been greasing it every 10k miles since I bought it 2 years ago. In my hand I have almost no play. On the end with 1 joint it seems like it can move .001" or so. Very little. Is this acceptable?

Also transfer case likes to randomly disengage the CDL if I'm not on the gas. Is that normal?

There are no noises or vibrations now but I'm still skeptical of the T-case

Any ideas?

Update : the play isn't coming from the joints but from where the 2 shafts connect. I'm guessing there is play in the teeth.

My buddy has been driving his P38 for 12,000 miles on only a rear drive shaft. Carry on.

No, your CDL should NOT come disengaged. Is the lever physically moving?

It just falls out . Very subtly. Then I move my hand over to click it back into gear.

Just more evidence T-Case is junk?

And then what is stopping you from keeping a nudge onto the CDL lever to keep it engaged?

I hold my hand on the shifter to keep it engaged. The point is the vehicle isn't driving right though...

I want my disco back

Well you have a 2001, what kind of CDL engagement mechanism does it have?
