Are DI & DII Winshields the same?
Anyone know if the front windshield (non-heated) on a DI and a DII are the same, or interchangeable? I have an '03 DII with a crack in the windshield and need to replace it. There are a couple of DI's and earlier model year DII's being parted out within a few hours drive, but wasn't sure of the exact spec on different model years?
My other option is to try using Safelite AutoGlass and hope they can find the correct replacement, but that's looking like it might be pretty expensive.

I'd take an original LR windscreen over the Chinese replacement the insurance company will let you get. The knock off's don't take rock hits as well as the OG glass did. They would be farther ahead paying the G for the Pilkington windshield rather than five $450 pieces of soft glass.
If you can pick a good condition OG windscreen DO IT!

If I'm not mistaken the D1 windshield is shorter vs a D2. As far as cheap glass goes I agree that Pilkington glass is excellent. However I'm pretty sure the glass Safelite uses isn't that super thin crap from China. I've had several company windshields replaced there (multiple vehicles) and they held up fine to the debris tossed at me out on the highway. IMHO I'd be more concerned with the quality of the install itself!!!! You can have the $$$$$ glass in the world, but if it's put in crappy you'll have water leaking into your LR and eventually you will have a rusted out bulkhead/floor.....

Best4x4 - Thanks for the input. I'm not 100% confident in the install by Safelite, but not sure how many other options I'll have in my area. Trying to do as much research and gather opinions/experiences from others before I pull the trigger. The crack in my windshield is about half-way across, so I'll need to do something soon.

Another D2 will work, but D1 body is 4 inches narrower, so very doubtful on D1 glass. If you find a used heated glass, you have a prewired plug for it. Search on here for install. I think a plug is preexisting for a switch in the cabin. If it is already out of the previous vehicle, you can set in front of your current windshield and plug in and check the heating elements with a digital thermometer (need to temporarily borrow a another switch to turn on). Then decide if good enough and price.

I just had a Safelite windshield install done on one of my D2s and it's excellent. The brand is that same company that's in that Netflix doc American Factory... Fuyao? They make glass for pretty much every carmaker it seems. It's heated, works great, came with a new OEM seal for the top of the glass too. $632.11 was the total. No leaks and it's been installed for about 6 months.
