Glad I flushed out system as that old red coolant looked like rusty muck after flushing it with prestone flush then several more times with water I added prestone to my cooling system now my next project is power steering fluid flush
Any suggestion on how to flush that out ? Or is the best method to use a pump and empty the reservoir several times ??

I hope you cleaned out the holes in your t/stat or you may start running hot.

 

Use a pump, fill it with reg dot4, run it, pump it, fill it with reg dot4, run it, pump it, fill it with the synth.

 

The best way to flush the power steering system is to crack open the bleeder screw ontop of the steering box, have a friend start the engine, keep the system full.
Once new fluid comes out of the bleeder screw tighten it back up, top off if needed.
You may need to turning the steering wheel from side to side while doing this.
It will only take a min or three using this method.

Where do I find the bleeder screw for the power steering Is it around the reservoir ??

 

When I changed my power steering fluid, I disconnected the lines at the reservoir and drained out the old fluid then reconnected the feed line, but left the return disconnected. I capped the return fitting on the reservoir and added some extra hose to the retuen line and stuck it in a jug. I filled the reservoir with clean fluid and started the truck. Once the return flow was fresh fluid, I shut off the truck, reconnected the return line and topped off the reservoir. This seemed to work as the fluid in the reservoir stayed clear after a week of use. Does the flow not move through the entire system, or would this approach get most of the old fluid out?

 

He's looking for the bleeder screw for the power steering. The thread sort of veered off to another topic.

Take a look on the top of the steering box which is bolted to the frame. There is a screw on the top of this box for bleeding out the air. It is also indicated in the steering box diagram in RAVE.

 

On page 711 of the rave shows pictures and steps for bleed process i suggest you read it.

 

Whats the best way to dispose of the used anti-freeze?

I'm debating on doing the flush myself or just forking over the doh and have it vacuumed out with the special machine.

I have a new radiator, thermostat, etc... I just want to flush the stop leak stuff out...
I plan on replacing the new thermostat with a new 180, i'm just trying to determine the right order of things.

Should I flush (with existing thermostat), replace with new 180, and fill? Or just have it vaccummed flushed, come home and clamp off the tubes and replace the thermostat?
