Exclamation Died while in the mud

So me and a few friends were out mudding a few days ago. i spun out a few times and the m and s and the gear selector lights started flashing. i just restarted and that fixed that. now when i went through some deeper water when i got to the other side it sputtered and died. with the ms flashing and gear selector. every time i would start it then put it in gear it would just lose revs and die. after a while it started working again though. i want to mud again but i dont wont to risk killing my truck. can anyone tell me what went wrong and how to prevent it next time i go? People have started calling Lando a pavement princess.

Sounds like you got water in your intake, happened to me at a mud bog. Have you checked your air filter? Did the MAF get wet? Our disco's breath through the left fender so if you get water up over your wheel well for too long it will suck water in. A snorkel well fix that if its what happened. Have you checked to see if you have any codes?

No i have not checked for codes (no light has come on saying i did) but that would make sense cause after it dried out for a while it worked. and my air filter was replaced after doing the mudding and it was not wet at all and did not show any signs of being wet. im going to auto zone today to get a scangauge so i guess i can have them check for codes while im there. there was some mud in the engine bay on the MAF wires not sure if that would affect it

Dieing in gear my be a IACV ( idle air control valve) problem. And the flashing m/s and gear selector light, try checking battery/alternator voltage. Then, look to the XYZ switch on the side of the transmission.

The other issue that people say will put your tranny into limp mode (M+S flashing) is when your battery terminal connections aren't in tip top, or are sending a weak signal. Make sure that your battery connections are super solid. Undo the battery leads and wire brush them off and re-tighten them back on firmly.

also, I went into limp mode when by CPS (Crankshaft position sensor) went out. It would kill my engine while driving and make my tranny get an insufficient amount of power. As soon as I had replaced that, everything was back to normal.

Given what you were doing, it looks like a classic case of water/mud etc has found its way to your xyz switch on the topside of your gearbox.

Needs a good clean and protection from the wet.

Cheers, Jerry
