Default Differential fluid change D1

I changed the diff fluid my D1 yesterday, old oil was rotten smelling and a blueish green color, front took 2 quarts and the rear only took about 90% of the 2 quarts that is required, am I going to have any issues due to the inabilty to fill or top off with the 2 quarts that it takes? ( I was on level ground for the drain and refill. ) Also, doing the transfer case on Tuesday, any advice or is it pretty staright forward as I have read on the forum? Thanks for all the tips, would be lost without this site.

Yes, you should be fine- the owners manual says 1.8 qts for the front & rear diff. The t-case is easy and straight forward, as long as you got something to get the gear lube in. A quart gear lube bottle won't fit to the fille hole, requiring a pump or much smaller squeeze bottle.

If I recall correctly the drain and fill plugs for the t-case are behind the parking brake drum so it takes a little creativity to get the plugs and the ratchet out. Forget about getting the plug and ratchet out together.

Yes, the fill plug is half behind the drum. I had to get a wobble extension on my ratchet, or a breaker bar works.
