Question Differential locked

need to know how to unlock the rear, (?) differential on my Disc 2 2002. Light came on during a long drive, so need some help! I live in Belize, Central America, no dealer here! How far can I drive with it dinging at me?
Thanks, Jenni.

It sounds like it’s not the rear diff but is the transfer case. It dings while shifting between high and low range. I would try playing with the shifter with the transmission in neutral

How would it lock if you didn’t push on the lever

the differential is probably not locked, since you're in an '02 and it's highly unlikely that you have a lockable central differential unless your truck has been retrofit. the transfer case is slipping into neutral between the high and low ranges. shift into low, then shift back into high and see if that cures the problem.

Thank you. I can't even find the warning light in my manual....the light shows two cogs with an x thru them. It is to the left and just below the service engine light.

That light is for the center diff lock. From the factory your truck did not have a mechanism to engage the lock. It could be a wiring issue to diff switch (I can lock my diff but the switch no longer works). Check to see if your diff is actually locked by driving in a circle on dry pavement with your steering at full lock. The tires will skid/scrub on the pavement.
