What are the differences visually. I was told my disco was an 03 SE but the carfax says S.

If the vinyl leathery? I swear the material was actual leather but now I don't know.

I have searched and searched but am so clueless being a newbie.

 

Why are you looking at an 03, are you are of their high engine failure rate, the fact they don't have a locking t/case? What are you planning on using it for and what sort of prices are you seeing.

$6500 I kind of have bought it already...

I always loved Land Rovers. The disco is high mileage and I feel would have had its failer by now. I have no issues with more than usual maintenance. I knew that going into it.

The exterior is flawless. I am not a heavy trail rider. The occasional mud and possibly "big hills" in florida. I just like the feel of 4wd and v8 and hate the boring and mundane... "SUV's"

 

I have had them both... i know have the S

MY SE had dual sunroofs, my S has neither,
MY SE had foglights with color matched bumper trim, my S has no foglights,
MY SE had the factory tow package and wiring, my S doesnt.
MY SE had duragrain seat material which is that "vinyl leather" you spoke of, my S has duragrain.

MY SE had the rear cargo area cover, my S "borrowed" it permanently.
MY SE had 18 inch rims, my S has 16 inch rims.

That was it....everything else was the same expect for the interior and exterior color...

I traded the SE for the S because I wanted silver ext and all black interior. I didn't care for losing the sunroofs, and foglights, but sometimes i wonder how nice it would be to have sunroofs again...

 

So it is an S. No big deal. I really don't care for sunroofs. Is the upholstry as durable as leather?

This one does have the proper wiring harness and hitch along with the cargo cover. No fog lights.

 

Yeah if not taken care of I think the leather can tear and what not, you can wipe these seats down with a cloth and water, and they will look like new forever. the only way they will tear is if you have something sharp in your pocket(s). The duragrain won't break down like leather can. however i never maintained leather so....

Congrats on the buy BTW...and make sure you read the owner's manual front and back, twice. Premium gas ONLY and rebuild your front drive shaft... you can look all this stuff up here...

 

So, how much of a high miler is it?
Have you spoken with Rover to see if your vin falls within the range of possible engine failures?

 

I have a 03 HSE and a 00 S and I like my 00 better I have less to worry about no leaky sun roofs no rear air bags no ACE and the 4.0 pulls up the mountain passes as fast as my 03! My new favorite year and yes I am going on record is the 2000 Disco S "I like it a lot"!!

 

If you keep the sunroof tracks clean and lubricated they aren't a problem. Also keep the drains cleared. My sunroofs have never leaked.
