I just installed a shuttle valve to cure the 3 Amigos. That worked great but I don' t have the Hawkeye Tool to bleed the brakes. I did bleed them following the usual automotive procedure starting with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder first. The result was OK but the brakes are still a little mushy.


Has any out there figured out a procedure to bleed the brakes to get all of the air out of the ABS?


I have seen references to bleeding right at the ABS Unit; how is that done I don't see a bleed screw on the unit? Are they talking about have someone press the brake pedal whilst someone else opens each of the 4 lines on top?


Also would it be better to bleed the brakes with the ignition on to activate the module?


Finally, If I just keep bleeding them enough will I eventually get all the air out?


I have replaced ABS modules on other cars and never had to use special software.


Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you can pull the ABS relay and jump the abs pump to bleed your brakes.
but only jump it for 1-3 seconds no longer, the pump is pushing against a closed system no need to strain it.
it will take two people on at the relay and one at the bleeder, or a 15 ft double strand wire
and you can do it yourself.

ps you should be looking to flush all the old fluid out of the lines

 

Ditto as per drowssap, plus you can use the hot side of the relay to open / close the inlet and outlet valves on each circuit as you bleed with the pump to push more air out. Pins to do so on the modulator in RAVE electrics, fluid flow schematic under brakes.

 

Or you can do the same thing by putting the truck in low range and activating the hill descent control at about 20mph and let that slow the vehicle down.

As long as you get the ABS working safely it will move the air out of the pump. Then you bleed the normal way again...

Repeat as necessary until braking is solid.
