Default PLEASE HELP!! Disco 2 clicks won't start

Hello, have a 2004 Disco 2 4.6 recently disco would not start very sluggish like dead battery, then clicking. Brand new battery, then replaced starter yesterday, tried to start it up this morning and it's just clicking. Where should I go from here?

Sounds like your starter may be on its way out. Tap it with a hammer next time it clicks see if a little persuasion will coach it into turning over.

I disagree with above^^^^^ since you just replaced your starter.

Try and jump the car. Your alternator might be dead, and not charging that brand new battery.

EDIT:
Did you recently switch from SLS to springs? My battery was being drained every time I let it sit over 2 days because the computer had not been switched to springs and something in the SLS system was still using power trying to adjust the suspension.

Smile update

I bought this truck used from a lady down in Orlando about 3months ago, Only problems were check engine light, pulled codes for o2 sensors, truck just passed 100k so im expecting certain things to start going out on me. did not switch any suspension components either.
So my wife went to school and truck wouldn't start. I cleaned all battery terminals and ground points, charged batt and started fine. I replaced the batt a few days later just to have a new one. few weeks later same thing wouldn't start for her, it was a cold morning, she tried starting and it acted like batt was going dead very slow sluggish turning over then solenoid clicking. I checked batt voltage and it was around 12.5volts. so again I charged batt and later it would start. I changed out starter and later today i'm putting in new plugs and a crank position sensor. I had the motor running and checked voltage on batt to see if alternator was putting out a good charge, at idle what should it be putting out?, Im starting to think my alt is going bad so im getting a new one also, just to be safe it is over 100 k anyways, might as well replace it. I do have a question about the cps, what exactly is this sensors function, and if it were bad or going bad would it still allow the starter to start the motor, would it just have to spin the flywheel more?? that's kinda what Im thinking in my head that if it had to spin it more it would drain my batt. If the batt is FULLY chared it will turn over without struggling. What is the minium batt voltage to start a 2004 4.6? So to recap I have changed the battery, starter, cleaned all ground points and terminals. later today will change spark plus, alternator 130amp and cps sensor. thanks for any advice, greatly appreciated.

You cant tell the charge of a battery by just putting the meter on it. Take a reading as youre trying to start it. If its 12.5 and drops very little, then its most likely not the battery. From what you're describing, it sounds like the battery is low.

Why are you changing all this stuff?

Is she letting the car sit at idle with the heat, seat heaters, lights on etc? When the fan kicks on, at idle, there might not be enough juice being made to keep all that running thus wearing down the battery.

Get your meter out, and take a reading while your driving around.

If you were closer I'd help you out.

On mine when it gets cold the negative cable can work its way off the post. It has enough contact to unlock the truck and run the radio but when I try to crank it all I get is a click and then nothing. Autozone sells lead battery post cap shims that help, only $1 for 2.

While you're there have them check the alternator.

Default voltage

I had taken a base reading at 12.5v ,started truck and watched meter go to around 14v, , I'll have to do it again to get specific numbers. I changed the batt because it was original with corrosion. changed the starter because it seemed to me from previous experience solenoid shouldn't click so quickly after one or two slow sluggish cranks, The battery isn't completely dead after sitting it is around 12-13 volts. first time disco owner ,still learning the truck. 100k miles it don't hurt to replace these items anyways. money isn't an issue. but it is getting frustrating. I am replacing the alt today. In hindsight I should have replaced it first. the only thing I can think of that is drawing power at night while sitting is the alarm, how much should it be drawing?

battery terminals are tight, I check them often, Im in florida so luckily it doesn't get to cold. previous owner didn't have the batt hold down , so I replaced that to secure batt from dancing around. I cleaned all ground points and terminal ends. I'm just waiting later today for parts store to ship me my parts from their sister store. I will post again when I put everything in.

I'm still sticking with my first thoughts when I read your first post, and it's your alternator. The way you describe the problem is classic signs of bad Alternator. Be sure to fully charge your battery before starting it up with the new Alternator.
I hope the new one fixes your problems. Keep us posted

Places like Advance Auto can test your alternator.

Test your old one and test the NEW one.

I have gotten bad alt from various places...now I have them test every one.

It will also let you compare readings.
