Coils are easy.
Remove the upper intake, 6 bolts, and the coils are right there.

Me too, you can pry it off the studs on the passenger side, and replace the studs with bolts

Sai are just the pipes that run along the back they are held on either side by rubber connections. Not very hard to remove

I've recently seen people removing the SAI stacks from the heads completely for just a simple coil/wire job. You should NOT have to mess with the stacks connected to the heads on any SAI D2/P38. You just need to remove the studs from the intake, and replace with bolts. Then you can lift the intake up and off without messing with the stacks/head connections.

@gsxranger

This what you need to do to get rid of the studs on SAI, makes getting the intake off simple

Thanks guys for all the input and advice. I have not taken a vehicle to a real mechanic in years, but this one has me stumped. I was down to just guessing and replacing parts, and even though I have plenty of spares I was wasting time and of course every time you remove things when your not sure that are the problem, it is invasive and you can break things or screw up working systems - ie pulling the plugs off a 16 year old ecu under the dash, angry, with a long screw driver. I towed it to a Rover specialist a couple of days ago and am awaiting his diagnosis. His mobile scanner came up with 0 rpm to the ecu, which made the CKP sensor suspect. I swapped in a brand new one (after two used ones from known runners) and that wasn't it. He tested spark and got no spark - not sure how that happened because I had at least weak spark on all cylinders earlier in this month long process. He started on it yesterday and I haven't heard back from him, which is an ominous sign for the Rover budget. Stay tuned.
