Default Fix/mod removing studs for SAI bracket

For those of us with secondary air removing the upper intake is a nuisance because you need to remove the SAI tube from the heads. This is both difficult because of limited space and you have a good chance of bending the tubes.
This would be alot easier if LR had used bolts rather than studs. The simple solution is remove the studs and use bolts, it makes removing the upper intake a breeze.

Although this has been written up before, I had some difficulty in locating the information so here we go.

Notes:

This is easier with the intake off but could be done with the intake on. It will be more work and slower but you could do it, the studs are easy to get out.
The biggest challenge will be if there is enough room to double nut the stud and turn the wrench
Go easy when removing the studs they are pretty small if they bind, hit them with penetrating oil and go back in then out. Patience is your friend.

Remove the studs double nut and 2 10mm wrenches, mine came out with no drama

Studs that are coming out

Nuts doubled up note the orientation

I am using Allen bolts, but you could use stand hex head

Size info M6-1.0 x 12

Allen

Standard Hex

Finally the bracket mounted, I removed the upper portion for clarity

Note mounted upside down

Complete piece - still upside down

When I bought my first Discovery I had no idea they had SAI, every time I see an SAI post I read it and praise the Rover gods for not cursing me.

@Frank4 yea it adds a lot of extra plumbing.

I need to see I can relocate the aluminum tubes on the firewall as part of this

I finally did this and added the M6 x 12mm 8.8 bolts for the SAI studs. Easy peasy!

I just did this on my engine rebuild, but I did it because I'm an idiot and forgot that the SAI and EGR valves had to go on AFTER the intake was on. I put them on the head before the intake and couldnt finish assembly.

Yanked those bitches right out

Am I the only one that slightly bends the SAI tubes to get it in and out? I've never had an issue, and I've only cracked one tube in maybe 10 HG jobs.

@User I needed a lot of bend to get the intake clear so this was just simpler and reduces stress on the parts
