Default Disco 2 now not cranking after coil pack replacement

2001 Disco 2, 145k miles

year ago had the plugs and wires replaced, just recently had the coil pack replaced with a salvaged part. Run great until today. Now the engine turns over at start but no start. I cleaned the battery connection, battery is good, alt is good, starter seems good, tried to jump it with another car but still it will not crank.

Is the coil pack to blame? and what needs to be done to fix the issue?

TIA

So, are you saying the engine turns over but will not start??
Why did you replace the coil pack?
Yes, the only 2 things that can cause what I think you are describing would be either the coil pack or the crank sensor.

I replaced the coil pack because it was sputtering when I had the air on and would be climbing a hill. The service engine light came on and the codes read misfire in 1 and 6. I just had new magnacor wires and bosch plugs put on one year ago. The shade tree mechanic said it was probably the coil pack. Now I am sitting here with the engine turning over put it will not crank.

Another friend said to spray starter fluid on the carbirator then see if it cranks. If yes, then it is a fuel issue, if it still doesn't crank then it is a firing issue.

What do you recommend?

TIA

Disco Mike,

The old coil pack looked fine and the new coil pack(came off a wrecked vehicle) look great too. It ran fine for three days then all of the sudden nothing.

Could it be:

1. Control Unit
2. speed transducer
3. Crank sensor

TIA

Looks tell you nothing. You need to find a mechanic that can scann the system to verify if the coils are firing.
I would think you got a bad coil pack and should get it replaced. How much did you pay for the coil pack?

Mike,

I paid 150.00 for the used part. Would it work for a few days and then completely shut down?

Could you be more descriptive about what you mean "scann the system to verify". Is it the same as scanning the codes?

Thanks,

sparky
