Default disco 2 seams to lack power

So I have a 1999 disco 2 with 208000 miles that purchased few weeks ago i have finally ironed out most the kinks in this thing have all the codes cleared and running good all accept it seems to lack power i have read about turning over tires to keep traction control moving occasionally and it made me realize i can hammer it on a dirt road and the tires wont turn over it is really sluggish to accelerate. I would expect more from a v8 even one of this age runs great other than that just wondered if there was another weird land rover thing or if i should start chasing. Thanks for the help fellas you guys have really shortened the learning curve for me thus far........

Could just be fouled up and the computer running less than optimal settings. You can clear the adaptive settings with some code readers, I believe disconnecting the battery overnight will do it too.

Start by pulling spark plugs are they fouled or normal
Then check the throttle body make sure it moves freely and is clean
Air filter and hose to the fender both in good shape
I am assuming no codes at this point

You can try a running at high rpm, for a while over 2500.

I would suggest if available to you find a nice long off road hill
Put some injector cleaner in the tank
Low range 1st or second and climb the hill at 2500 - 3000 rpm a few times at least 15 minutes worth each time

Barring that same idea on the highway just select a lower gear to get the rpm up to 2500 or so. Go for a good drive a say 120 miles in total

WARNING - your cooling system and oil have to in good shape. And you should be confident in everything else on your Disco.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

The 4.0 is a dog. The 4.6 is a little better. I drive around town in sport mode seems to help.

With all that you replaced it would certainly help to have the adaptive settings reset so it can relearn with the newer parts you have installed. Also yes the 4.0L is a low on HP especially if the D2 is running larger tires, a rack, metal bumpers, and it's lifted.

It is lifted and has 33 inch tires on it thats why i wasn't sure if this is normal or i have something else going on there is a good chance there is a vacuum issue some where as my cruise control doesn't work when i hit the cruise button on the dash i get a red light but nothing when steering wheel controls are used so that is another rabbit hole for this weekend

I honestly have never wanted to use the CC on any of my 99-02 4.0L D2's lol. It would just be constantly shifting up/down anyways. It is probably the single vacuum line going to the pump. Pretty common they crack due to excess heat.
