Default Disco I Guy, Thinking About D2 Purchase

Hey all. I'm Alex, I own a 1998 Discovery I. I feel like a traitor coming over to the "modern" side, haha .

Recently, I've become interested in acquiring a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II. Though I'm fairly familiar and a regular poster on the DI side of the site, I'm not educated at all about these DII's. So, if you guys wouldn't mind to check out this DII and help me out with what to look for and such. I've been conducting my own research all night, and they seem to be like any other Rover, common problems with all of them. But, is there anything special I need to watch out for when I go check it out, bad signs, etc? The current owner seems to have maintained the rig excellently, it has a fairly small amount of miles for it's age but he keeps it up on fluids, plugs, etc. (Full Synthetic, meaning I can't run anything else from now on, right?) The custom bumpers were done by the extinct Highlander Offroad, great equipment it seems like. I called him earlier, seems knowledgeable, has had over 6 DIIs, he knows what he's doing. Hella 4000s, 31" new tires.

Tell me what you guys think!

EDIT: Also, is the Traction Control just as good as the CDL I'd be missing? (If it's not actually got that CDL transfercase anyways that I'd just have to crawl under and engage)

Go back to the DI section and read up on the "What to look for", it covers both models.
No you do not have to stick with full syn motor oil.
It looks and sounds like a decent truck, but driving it will be the key.
Which warning lights are on?
Do the warning lights come on when you turn the key all the way one but do not start it?
Lots of people remove the warning light bulbs so they never come on.
I dont think 105,000 miles is alot for a '00.

What does he mean ''no record because it's had so many upgrades"??? I would assume he has paperwork for the engine and trans rebuild? Nice looking truck, would be a good deal if it's been done right.

Just look for normal stufff that you would look for in any car you'd consider buying.

That's what I'm thinking. Yeah, I'd like to see whom he went to in order for all that rebuild stuff. Why would they remove bulbs?

To hide an expensive problem...I was SOOO glad that my Disco had the SES light lit and the 3 Amigos showed up within 2 weeks of purchase...That's how I knew I had a keeper

To answer your last question, NO the TC is not as good as the CDL, period. It is very good as long as you keep momentum, but it will not give you the traction a full CDL will (which a 2000 will have the ability to engage if you add the linkage, or crawl underneath with a wrench as you mentioned.

*for roughly the first half of the 2000 model year. From what I've seen: Early 2000's DO, late 2000's DON'T, and mid 2000's MAY... have the CDL nipple.

Actually it's the 2001s Not the 2000s. The exception would be if the transfer box was replaced with a newer non-CDL model, otherwise '99- to mid or late '01 D2s have the capability of being set-up with just the linkage.

Super easy. 10mm open ended wrench is all you need.
