Default Disco II 2001 Suspension Refresh

Guys,

I want to do a complete suspension refresh on the Landie. Other than coil conversion in the back, she's never had any work done. I want to do all shocks/struts, bushings, steel brake lines, rotors, etc. I want to keep the OEM height. I'm interested in any modern upgrades if it provides better performance/ride for street use. I understand that the Land Rover stuff is NLA. Does anyone have any recommendations on kits or substitutes?

Is there a thread or parts list anywhere, especially of all the little bits and bushings?

Thank you!

E

I’d seriously considering keeping the rear air suspension. You’ll likely need to replace the air springs and do some more maintenance on the system. But IMO a well maintained air suspension is better than coils.

I just did this in July. Replaced literally every rubber thing in the entire suspension. I just went with Atlantic British's kit for the bushings: https://www.roverparts.com/suspension/kits/9721D2/

Wild how shot the watts linkage was. Also never been so nervous pressing in that $250 bushing, but it went in just fine.

@Brandon318 thanks, that's great. What'd you go with in terms of springs/shocks?

@Harvlr the air suspension is LOOOOONG gone, so I'm going to stick with the traditional shocks/springs if possible.

Just the TF mediums for both springs and shocks. I *did* however swap the rear spring perches with those from the D1 to give the rear an extra 1/2" of height. That was something I actually really miss about the air springs back there, being able to set the height myself.

I can't do a lift or I won't be able to fit into my parking deck at work! I'm trying to find springs/shocks that can match the stock setup.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I asked the Rovers North guys and they didn't have anything nice to say about the Britpart replacements.

I had a good experience with Old Man Emu. Although I did have the 2" lift with medium duty shocks and springs. They are pricier compared to TF but I've had problems with TF's quality and design. Agreed with the Britpart opinion, the quality of the parts suck, to the point where I expect to return one or more of the parts.

A stock setup will likely be ever so slightly higher than it currently rides, as I'm willing to bet the springs are worn out and sagging a bit. Not sure how tight the clearance is.

I have Old Man Emu and really like them. Mine is also a 2” lift, but OME also makes a stock height set. As rikkd said, your original springs have probably settled, maybe even a whole inch, so if your parkade is tight, new stock height springs might not work for you.

If OME had a stock height, that would be most preferred. Everything on Rovers North seems to be 2" lift. I checked the ARB website, but it didn't really specify if it was stock height or a lift. Do you happen to have a link to a stock OME kit?

The parking deck is 6'7" height, so stock should be fine. 2" lift would be pushing it!

https://www.roverparts.com/suspension/kits/9393D2A/ . Boy the sticker shock on this one (pun intended). I knew they were somewhat pricy, but $970?. TF is $400 cheaper, so depending on the budget it may be an alternative. I think these are stock height, they don't mention a lift, I'd still call them to verify. Definitely shop around, there's gotta be a cheaper price?

Also, check the front shock tower mounts. At the base of them there's a seem that can split. I don't know how common it is, but I had it happened to me. My D2 also was wheeled often and definitely had quite a bit of stress on it. You can tell pretty easily if it is split.
