Default Disco II Dual Battery Box

All,

I'm looking to add a backup battery system to my D2 built around something like the Hellroaring Backup manager. I've seen a bunch of sites and posts about some trays, but it looks like they're all currently out of production. Does anyone have any sources for dual trays that mount to the stock area that are in stock?

thank you,

E

I was on the hunt for a dual battery tray last year for my D2 but all the manufacturers dried up. You can either fab your own or approach the problem a little differently. I went with an EcoFlow for my “house” battery and mounted it my cargo area. This has serveral advantages over a permanently mounted battery like it already has power outlets on the unit, can charge it via DC input or solar panel easily, can remove it and use it outside the vehicle for any purpose, etc. I can also jump the battery with it if needed.

I was on the hunt for one 4 years ago and same thing, all dried up. I ended up putting my battery back in the rear cargo box, which works just fine, the only thing I don’t care for is that I have to run a large cable all the way to the back for charging but I just put it in a cable loom and honestly, I forget its there most of the time even though I’m in the back all the time getting my daughter in and out.

All, I made contact with the Disco Solutions guys. They're prepared to make another run of trays, but need four more folks to pull the trigger on the run. Does anyone else have interest? If so, please reply to this thread!!

Wouldn't the air compressor mounting box be a decent place for a second battery? If you don't have air shocks, of course.

Here's a link to an old thread with pics of the dual battery tray once sold by long-defunct Columbia Overland. Not great pics, but useful I think. An enterprising DIYer could perhaps fab a homebrew version.

Later in the thread is a diagram of a forum member's battery isolator setup.

gte619n - Do you have a link or pics of the Disco Solutions tray?

two batteries will fit in the stock box, modified of course but I did it last year. You lose the bottle jack but those aren't usually functioning very well at their age and storage location..

$1000 battery tray, OMG must be some overlanding markup! My house battery is 100aH LifePO4 with a redarc bcdc so I only had to run 8AWG wire through the firewall grommet from the vehicle battery to rear compartment. I enjoyed the project aspect but if I were to do it again I might just go the Anker, Ecoflow or Bluetti power station route.

The $1000 is for the tray, both optima batteries, the solenoid, and the wiring.
