I will 2nd that. I don't run one in the LR, but have run one in just about every past car (most using a Bosch MAF as well..Audi, VW, Saab). Also, ran them in cars with much more power sucking much more air. If you are sucking in oil, you are using WAY too much! With that said, I have no plans of putting a K&N in the LR as I'm not looking for added performance in this rig.

It is a good place to start looking, though, as I didn't do it and I don't know what previous owners have done. I love driving this thing, it's comfortable, I like the stance, I like the position in the driver's seat and I like the overall feel of just being able to go over about anything.

Yeah the driving experience is what keeps most of us in these trucks. But the gas prices atm sure is not helping!

Today on my way home from work, for the first time it made a popping noise. It sounded muffled, like it was in air intake hoses, and wasn't steady, but it got very sluggish and missed some while doing so. I couldn't locate the sound exactly because it isn't doing it sitting still, but only when moving. It was definitely from the front drivers side somewhere under the hood, though. Any ideas on that?

It isn't perfect but I believe that with a little work, this its going to be a great vehicle. It is a 2000 Discovery Series II V8, and it needs a little work but runs great. I think I love it already! I'm going to go start with my fuel filter, it had 19 codes when I tested it earlier from the CEL, so I have some things to do. Hope to be productive here, and is nice to be a part of the forums!
By any chance did you write down or remember your 19 codes? If you post them it will be a lot easier for our crystal ***** to work

It backfired through the intake.

I cleared the codes to see what comes back. It seems something relatively minor, but if I end up having to rebuild, then that's what I'll do. I do have codes again now, I will have them checked tomorrow. I want to thank everyone here for their generous help. Great community so far, some very knowledgeable people.

Bank 1 system lean

Bank 2 system lean
P0733

That transmission code worries me.

The incorrect gear ratio codes can be cause by the MAF sensor. I'm not 100% sure on the why.... maybe with the MAF telling the computer bad info, it thinks its having to work too hard for the gear it's in.... just a guess.

That makes sense. Looks like the MAF is going to be the place to start. It just needs to be replaced, right, no way to clean one?
Also, now my brake lights mysteriously stopped working. :/
