Disco II Fuel pump loses power
Hi all,
I recently had an issue with my wife's Disco II where she was driving ~20 minutes when it stalled.. She tried to restart it but it wouldn't fire, (even though she could crank it ok.)
I went out to rescue her, tried a few things then after a while it magically started... A few days later she was driving, (again for ~20 minutes), when it did it again so she had it towed home.. She didn't drive it for a couple of days until I could have a look at it.. I felt it may have been a fuel pump issue so removed the rear carpet to access the pump.. I grabbed my multimeter to check that it was getting voltage to the pump.. I turned the ignition on, heard the pump prime and saw 13v was getting to the pump for a few seconds and then started the engine.. I monitored the multimeter with the car running and everything seemed fine.... until ~20 minutes later it died again. I attempted to restart it but this time the pump didn't prime and I was getting 0v to the pump.. My next thought was either the fuel pump relay or ECU were faulty.. I did a bit of Google Engineering and read that if I disconnect the battery, turn on the lights and turn the ignition on it would drain any stored voltage across the ECU before reconnecting the battery and trying to start it... Well knock me down with a feather, this actually worked!!
So I let it run to see what would happen and surprise, surprise about 20 minutes later it died again.. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery as previously but this time it didn't work...
Has anybody had a similar issue or have any thoughts as to what the problem may be??
Cheers and thanks in advance!
Darren

Thanks guys..
I ran it for ~30 minutes this morning before it died... Poured water on the sensor and just like magic it was able to be started again...
Now to order a new crank sensor... and a pair of very small hands!
Thanks again!
