Disco II gear box , tranny or ??
I have a 99 Disco II that I've had for a couple of years. Has the upgraded front drive shaft and an a replaced engine w100k on it. I've had pretty good luck with it overall. Have kept up on all the fluid changes etc...
I was Driving about 40 mph and heard a decent metal clunk and the Rover acted like it was in neutral. Had to tow it home I had a tranny line burst a while back and it acted like that. Engine can rev but goes Nowhere...
I've crawled all around it and don't see anything out of the ordinary. Unfortunately I have not been able to get it up my driveway yet ( has snowed no-stop) and into my garage to open things up ( gear box ) etc.
Anyone have a guess of what has happened?
Stumped in Denver.....

ok so let me ask you this. The rover has about 200k on the drive-train. What would be the best thing to do if the gearbox is toast.
1) just buy a the whole assembly used (tranny and gearbox) about 300-500 at the local junk yard or craigslist.
2) try to rebuild, replace the gearbox
The engine in it now was from a 98 disco I .
Would there have been any mods to the drive-train since it is a disco II
**** And honestly I have no idea if the drive-train is original to the car or was put in w/ the engine .
Previous owner said he blew a head gasket and went the used engine route......

ok I'll be doing the work myself. What about engine/drivetrain compatibility ) possibly different year and model) issues?
My tranny has always leaked as did the gearbox so I really don't mind spending the money. Its a PITA (was that is) always checking the fluids and topping them off. I replaced the input shaft seal to no avail. Its running down the channel and comes out near the gear box cover. It's not my daily driver and really just use it to and fro locally and to pull my boat so I guess I'll be able to get it leak free while I am at it.
What about seal kits etc when doing this swap out? Have you come across a good write-up? I'm gonna keep researching threads until I can pull it out.
Thanks for the input.....
