Disco II overheating

My 2002 land rover discovery 2 started overheating and spraying coolant from the resevoir. So I took it to a shop and they said there was an air pocket in the hoses. After working it out, they said it was all good. The next day it was overheating again and was spraying coolant from the bleeder cap, which is now cracked. So I took it to Cowtown Rover in fort worth, tx. I have been told the motor was blown, but given no details, and charged nothing. I believe it may not have a blown motor. I need sugestions on what to check please.

The head gaskets were replaced 4000 miles ago. I drove it less than 100 miles total, then it started overheating. It didn't start overheating until I idled in a drive thru waiting to place my order. Drove it 70mph before idling for about 50 miles. Took it to a rover specialist and they immediately quoted me $9000 for a motor swap. It was originally spraying coolant from the resevoir cap, but once the resevoir emptied it came from the side of the bleeder cap where it was cracked from either pressure or by being improperly installed. The mechanic worked the air pocket out from the bleeder cap T joint. It seems I could let it idle indefinitely before the bleeder cap cracked, but once I accelerate it immediately goes in the red and the temp light comes on.

If all yes, I'd drain and flush cooling system. Refill system and bleed air per the D2 manual. Install serviceable bleed screw. If your local temps allow you can get by using distilled water while doing your initial leak checks. Crank & run closely monitoring coolant temp and check coolant level often/obsessively. Look for external leaks or steam out of exhaust and go from there to figure out if a serious problem. Reservoir cap as mentioned is a good/cheap place to start.
If not a "blown" engine could be one of many issues that can lead to coolant lose and overheat condition. Loose camps to head gaskets and no way to know until it's properly diagnosed by you or somebody else.

The coolant cap is a common failure. Replace it and see if you still overheat. The reservoir sometimes leaks as well. I don't think your motor is blown. From cold, run the motor with the coolant cap off and see if the level drops (watch the temp gauge too). Top up as necessary.
