Default Disco II vs Range Rover Classic

While I continue to wait on a buyer for my Cobra I'm wavering back and forth between what I want.

I had originally settled on a Disco II because it has a nicer digital climate control and lots of cool gadgets like hill descent and stability control.

However, there's a 1995 Ranger Rover Classic Country near my house with 106K miles and an asking price of $5,300. I'm finding Disco IIs with close to the same mileage for about the same money so that's a wash.

The RR has the classic lines that I first fell in love with back in 1987. But the Disco II is more modern.

Thoughts?

I'm going to crosspost in the RR section.

Sounds kinda high to me for a classic. I saw one a few weeks ago that was pristine for $2K. It had 150K miles on it, but sounded strong. (I have to stop and look every time) The main drawback I would see is not having an OBD2 system which can be very helpful.

Really, it's all in what you want.

I forgot to list OBDII as one of my other attractants. My rule is 1994 or newer for the 134a-based AC system and preferably under 120K miles.

I've been exchanging e-mails with the Rover owner and just learned the hood is black but the rest of it is green. Danger, Will Robinson.

The Disco II is a great truck with "lots of cool gadgets like hill descent and stability control"

I like things that work with out all the gadgets the more things that its has the more it brakes.

So my vote would be the Range Rover Classic it will most likely have air bags, electric
brake booster, but I could live with that and would.

If your much over 6" like I'm then the head room maybe something to think about.

It is lighter and will have more power than the Disco II.

Go look at it that may make it or kill it.

What kind of shape is the Classic in? Is it in a rainy or snowy environment? What has been done to it? Does it have the Air suspension?

Here's the Rangy http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=227264097

It's the Country trim level so I don't think it would have the air suspension.

We live in the Sunny South but I don't know that this Rover has spent its entire life there.

I'm only 5' 8" so headroom isn't an issue. I guess I need to drive both before fully coming to a decision. I'm just "bench looking" at the moment.

I'm not letting myself get behind the wheel of anything else until my Cobra sells lest I get a bad case of the wants.

wow... that Range Rover is clean...

I looked at a country a while back and it had the air bags, but he converted it to coils. I think the classic (as long as everything is well taken care of) is a great looking truck and i would still buy one.

View it like this; both are great just get the one you like the best.

I paid less for one with 84,000 miles on it. It looks to be in great shape. The only thing is that the County model had a grey painted set of wheels standard. Also, it had a CD player and a keyless alarm. I suggest the Classic if you like to have projects. I have done quite a bit of improving to mine. As far as the Air Suspension is concerned, I believe that the County either came standard with it or it was optional after 1993, and they can be a pain to work on.
Good luck on your dilema.

Personally, I'd love to de-gadget my Disco II. I don't need hill descent control. I really don't need power seats, sunroofs, 6 disc changer, etc. Just more crap to fix.
