RE: Disco Keeps Dying
Well, the dealer had 1 crankshaft sensor in stock today. I swapped it in and let the truck idle for 30 minutes before I was satisfied and shut it off.Until it tells me otherwise, I'm calling it fixed. Between the metal shavings on the sensor, the rust and the burnt looking housing I think the oldsensor was pretty well shot. While I was waiting I topped off the coolant bottle and looked for leaks. I found it leaking from the throttle body anddown onto the valve cover. I've been trying to keep it topped off for the last month or so. So lets see, the coolant leaks onto the valve cover, pools up and runs down to the back of the engine and drips down onto the crank sensor causing it to fail. Far fetched, but maybe! What bad timing with the MAF replacement though, I hate coincidences. I wonder if my cranksensor could have been giving me my codes afterall?

Have you had any problems after changing the CKP sensor? I have a 02 disco @ 105,300 mls and it is doing the very same thing yours was and this thread definitely helped, but I was wondering if the sensor change completely cured the problem. I have pretty much eliminated everything else and bought the sensor from autozone for 60 bucks. The plan is to change it tomorrow and hopefully have the disco up and running again as it is not starting at all now but turns strong. I also noted when researching fixes that the repair requires a "reset of adaptive values with test book", did you have any issues that required you to do that after sensor replacement?

The new crank sensor solved the stalling and not starting problem. You don't have to reset anything.
The codes obviously had nothing to do with the crank sensor. I tried three different MAF sensors in the span of 6 months before I was able to clear all those codes for good. That was frustrating, don't ever buy the cheaper aftermarket sensors, make sure the MAF says Bosch on it if you ever need one.
