disco td5 auto, engine sounds harsh

disco td5 auto, engine sounds harsh
can anyone tell me is it normal for the disco td5 auto to sound really harsh at low rev around 1500rpm, i have taken it to the dealer and they tell me there is nothing wrong, it sound as if the timing is to far advanced!!
