Default Discovery 1 Clock and front foglights

Greetings from Surrey! It would be nice to say Sunny Surrey but it's the usual impenetrable grey in the sky department.

As a newbie on the block I have a question but felt I ought to offer a home hint for the handyman as well.

Question first: Does anyone have any idea whether there is an alternative to laying out £60.00 odd on a new dash clock assembly for my 95 Discovery 1 ES?
There must surely be a piece of junk alarm clock, accessory, other vehicle or something somewhere that uses the same clock insert? any ideas welcomed. Thanks.

In the meantime, as a cheapskate of repute, as I have been slowly fettling this particular Discovery (TDi ES 1995 Auto 150k miles when bought - just over 3 grands worth ) I have been pondering what to do with the spoiler mounted front fogs which were not only not working but completely corroded beyond repair.

Inspiration struck! If you have the same problem and do not want to spend the fat end of £70.00 each for replacements - simply buy a set of 'Ring' rectangular auxiliary driving lamps - mine came from Halfords for £19.95 the pair - demount the originals from their cradles behind the spoiler, carefully split off the lenses from the fronts of them ( they're glued on with some sort of mastic ) and having cleaned them up properly, with clear silicone sealant or similar seal them to the fronts of the new driving lamps. They fit almost perfectly, but do need a little extra sealant at the ends to fully seal them. To affix the lamps to the original cradle that holds them into the spoiler - use the two screw holes on either side of the new lamps that are to hold them together and force the long torx headed screws from the Land Rover units in, using the original mounting holes on the cradle. Simply align the old lamp fronts to the apertures in the spoiler and remount the cradles. You will probably have to rewire the two leads to the fog lamps - but the connectors are just behind the headlamps- so easy to get at. I cut the wires a couple of inches south of the connectors and remade the whole cable down to the lights, using the original curly outer sleeve and the piece of rigid piping that seems to be there for structural rigidity only. The whole thing took about an hour and a half and that included the learning curve. The result? A great deal of satisfaction and some very useful extra illumination - and all for £25 quid including the sealant!

Hope this helps somebody.

Any clock ideas welcomed!

For the clock, try ebay or try http://www.landroverheaven.com/ as he is often breaking vehicles and may have just what you want.

Thanks for that. Only one on e-bay and with over a day and a half to go before the end of the auction - already heading for 25gbp -for a secondhand one with no guarantee of longevity. Your man at Landrover heaven didn't have one either. I've had the original apart and the actual clock part of the gubbins has VDO 70751 stamped on it. This must be a generic clock unit in a specialised casing. Someone must know what else it goes in, or where to get VDO bits.........?
