Default Discovery 1 vs Discovery 2

I have 4k to spend on a Discovery this weekend and was wondering which is the better route. Get a disco 1 for about $2500-3k and have money to spend on it or get a newer disco 2 but have no leftover cash. Not looking to do anything crazy with it but will be using it for what it was built for. I hear a disco 2 has a little more power and a redesigned suspension but not sure if that makes it worth having.

Thanks for any input.

I have and am leaning towards a disco II because of the options the truck has and I like the interior better. I was just wondering if someone had a 1 and went to a 2 and what they thought of both.

I have driven both and i love my DII. I have never taken a DI off road. Both DI and DII that I have driven are stock. Every time i drive the DI in question i say to myself,
"I don't mind having a DI" Would I get rid of my DII for a DI? no. Would I like to buy a DI as a second car and perhaps build it up? Sure

What do you intend to do with it?

how mechanical are you?

who do you intend on using for performing maintenance and repairs?

speaking for myself i'd be looking to do basic maintainence, even something like the fuel pump fix i would try but certainly not head gaskets or u-joints.

i'd be doing a fair amount of driving on somewhat rocky forest roads and otherwise typical snow/mud conditions for new england.

I or II?

No matter which one you get you will need to put some money into it to bring it up to par.
You dont want to be left with a truck that you just baught but cannot drive because you cant fix it.
From a $$$ standpoint get the DI.
As DI owner and soome one who has driven every model LR out there, get a DI.
The DII is bigger, better looking interior, but you wont have any cash left over after you buy it and that is taking a huge risk.
