Default Discovery 2 return to SLS - computer switch on?

I bought a Discovery 2 that is "over-lifted" for my needs, it has 781 OME's in the back and a bad 3" spacer lift in the front. I am considering my options to take it back to stock height.

It appears that all of the SLS stuff is still there, minus the bags of course. My question is: how problematic was the SLS system? I don't mind messing with the vehicle to get things to work right. Let's face it, the whole car could be considered "problematic!" At $350 for a set of Arnott bags with a lifetime warranty, that doesn't seem out of the question if the system can be restored.

I have no dash lights on, so I assume the SLS was disabled properly. The nearest dealer is 300 miles away, and I'm not going that way anytime soon. Can the system be re-activated and maintained by a home mechanic? If not, that's probably a deal breaker for the SLS right there.

Thanks

I have a set of spare bags (less than a year old -- about 4k miles on them) that you're welcome to for the cost of shipping.
The SLABS setting can be re-enabled using a Hawkeye or similar high-level device.

Man that's a nice offer! l just crawled around under there a bit, it looks like the sensors are gone as well, but the plugs are neatly zip tied above, and the "pipes" (hose lines) are still there minus the fittings to the bags. Compressor is still in place as well.

I am not familiar with a "Hawkeye", is that something that Les Schwab or an independent shop would have?

Thanks!

Jim

The bags and compressor won't be any use without the sensors. Mine are still on my truck even though I converted to coils because I just didn't bother to take them off.

A Hawkeye is a specialist OBDII tool that allows you to program a lot of the settings in your Rover's various computers.

Thank you so much for your kind offer. I'll check around Tuesday and see if anyone locally has the "Hawkeye" or that ability. Looks like sensors are readily available, so it could be a fun project. One challenge may be getting it to the shop in the deflated state after I install them!

Indeed, it would be much easier just to acquire a suitable OBDII Tool yourself and learn how to do it rather than pay someone to. You'll need the tool for many other things in the future anyway, such as bleeding the ABS brake system when you save $700 by doing your own brakes.

If you can ship me the SLABS Unit I'll enable/disable the SLS for nothing.

Guys, thanks a bunch. As usual I am way overthinking things. However, for my use I think the air bags/ stock height with 16's is the best way to go. That gives me a lot better options for LT tires with M&S ratings. My D1 is still stock and I've never needed more than that for the moderate off roading I do, and importantly I do a lot of glare ice driving with gear in the winter to hunt and get around Montana, and I want my truck to be as safe as possible. We do chain up to get to high altitude hunting spots, so I can't oversize tires too much any way.

So if you (Mollusc) can come through for me on the air bags, that would be truly awesome, and then down the road Best4X4 if you can come through with the programming, I can run my D1 until the D2 project is ready to roll. Mollusc I'll PM you my address.

Thanks again,

Jim
