Discovery 2 'Tips' for ownership?
Hello, LRF!
I am new to the forums, but I am an avid reader when it comes to forums, particularly this website. Anyway, I am 14 years old now and my dad was planning on giving me his Disco 2 (2004)... And I was curious if I wasn't aware of any kind of tips I might need for ownership of this vehicle in 2 years. The Disco is currently in the shop... Getting a new engine. Old one blew up, heads totally destroyed, slipped cylinder liner, etc..... Probably caused from overheating from previous owner. My family has had this car since I was 5 years old (2005) and I want it to stay in the family for at least another generation...My dad and I have been religious maintaining this car and hopefully it will last for a while. So, back to the original question: anything I need to be aware of?

Honestly, the most important things are change the oil regularly, rebuild the front driveshaft and grease it every time you change the oil, and keep the cooling system in perfect condition so it doesn't overheat again and wreck the motor.
If it does overheat, turn it off immediately and get it towed home or to a shop.
Besides that, just take the problems as they come.

Thankfully, I still love the truck, it's just my AAA club that does not!

Keep enough tools in the back so that you can do a head gasket job on the side of the road.
That's what I do. I've replaced the water pump on the side of the road and can only imagine what the bill would've been had it been towed to a shop. How many "mechanics" would know how to properly bleed a D2?
With this forum and RAVE, you should be able to tackle just about any problem.
