Default Discovery 2 tyre size

Hi

I've recently bought a Discovery 2
2.5 Td5

I'm happy with the vehicle overall

The vehicle has standard 255 /65R16 Tyres on

I would like yo change to a more common size tyre without getting a Narrower tyre and not decreasing ground clearance

Can some of you please suggest a good size tyre?

I will be doing alot of mild offroading in the near future

Thanks in advance

I don't know what sizes are typically available in SA but I can tell you this in case you weren't aware when shopping around. The first two numbers are the width and the height of the sidewall. If you change the first number you will affect the width, a smaller number is a narrower tyre and a larger one is a wider tyre. A 265/70-16 will be slightly wider but almost an inch and half taller that what you have now. The second number is the percentage of the width which dictates height of the sidewall. A 265/65 on a 16" wheel will provide roughly the same ground clearance as a 255/55 on an 18" wheel, and the tyre should be roughly the same width. Same overall height but more metal (18 vs 16) and less sidewall (55 vs 65) You'll have to play around with all the numbers to dial into what you want. The numbers also vary across different manufacturers as well. Are you changing the wheels? You can check out tirerack.com to see all the different measurements for different tire sizes. Hope this helps, others can probably provide better examples of what works well for them based on US/UK availability.

245/75-16
Very common in the US. More sidewall, only 10mm less width than you have now.
Lots of LT options if you need heavier construction.
