Default Discovery 2 V8 no spark or fuel

Hi all,

Im currently building a defender 110 but I have taken the engine, gearbox and transfer box along with the looms and ECU’s from a Disco 2 V8. Before taking the D2 apart, I drove it around to make sure all was well. Since swapping everything into the defender chassis I’m getting fuel on first crank but no spark. If I continue to crank the car over I get not fuel or spark but they car will happily crank over.

I have pretty much everything connected other than the abs sensors and lights etc etc. It seems to me that it may be an immobiliser issue but I would greatly appreciate any assistance from the knowledgeable chaps on this forums.

I'd check the fuel pump if you aren't seeing any fuel. Perhaps the filter is clogged? Is the coil getting power?

I believe the fuel pump and all associated parts are fine as when first cranking fuel is getting to the back of the engine. The engine has no spark at all leading me to believe something is shutting off the fuel after the first crank.

I think the default answer is the crankshaft position sensor.

Don't forget about the also default answer...."Resetting the Inertia (fuel-cutoff) Switch".
Although that, and/or a bad Main Relay/connection might be possible with this Frankenstein Rig.

Thank you, I’ve already replaced both the CPS and the inertia switch so I’m sure they’re okay. Would a bad main relay cause both no fuel and spark?

Are you using the defender's 10AS or the Discovery BCU?
Do a security learn in the Motronic if it is a BCU.
otherwise use GEMS .

Yes, it could.

Could also be a bad fuse box. I had the same issue. Replaced the CPS, main relay, and the entire engine bay fuse box. I messed with all three in the last round before it started finally (three days of laying/working in the snow later), so I don't know exactly which solved it, but that could be your issue.
