Default Discovery 2 ZF 4HP22/24 Automatic Dipstick Checking/Filling System

I have been working on a new project to bring to the market place D1 style dipstick/filler systems for the D2 automatic transmissions. These should be in production in 2-3 months max and the price will be between £150-200 GBP plus freight charges and any taxes in the US. All the user needs to supply will be a DIY or garage installation, a small ATF funnel or pressure filler and the ATF fluid.

The parts will consist a brass gearbox fitting, a dipstick tube, a dipstick tube bracket and a dipstick plus a user under hood alu filling plaque. This system will facilitate ATF filling and checking from the engine bay under the hood and will only require one person to exercise the autobox and fill the autobox rather than two persons provided the transfer box is placed in neutral.

If you are interested in buying this system please register your interest preferably by PM to permit me to gauge how many left hand drive V8 D2 units may be required.

Thought we already had a system for checking trans fluid..."if it's dripping, it's got fluid...if it's not, then add some".

Very true, but, until one day there's no autobox drive and it's out of ATF.

I was in a local town recently when the autobox dumped all of the ATF on the road, had I been able to check the levels more easily it may not have happened. Life can be such .................

I don't know Abran but I'll defo check for that. I don't think SAI should interfere with the autobox access but I'm not sure.

Can you do me a BIG favour, would you photograph the D2 V8 engine bay with particular attention to access at the rear sides of the engine where it joins the bell housing. I would be much obliged.

I’m in Cahor right now, back on the 5th. The SAI tubes make it very tight at the rear of the engine and firewall. I’m not sure it will fit but will take photos later.

Can't we just retrofit the transmission pan from a D1 that has the dipstick?

Hi Abran, yep Cahors is a nice city/town, some decent views down onto the river there. We were there 2 or 3 years back. Not bad wine either

We live WNW of Cahors. It's a bit chilly over there right now as it's too near the Massif Central. We had temps of 15+C this week, nearly sweating here apart from the tempete, winds and heavy rain.

Thanks for the info and look forward to seeing some photos.

Yes sir, you are certainly correct but there isn't too many around for sale in the UK and Europe, hence my mod project.

If there's a need for d1 pans...just ask someone in the states. I see d1's all the time in the yards and it doesn't cost me but $10 for a pan.

It also doesn't take two people to fill or check a d2 auto fluid level.

I do it all the time by myself, no lift needed either.

Dipstick and tube.
