Hi wesk.
It is bolted onto the bottom of the ABS modulator. That is the big block of aluminuim under the hood with all the brakepipes coming out of it.

I would suggest, by your questions that you may want to have a mechanic do it.
Why are you asking, and what are your brakes doing wrong?

I'm asking because I had an error code related to the ABS modulator. LR Dealer wanted to replace the whole thing for 3k. But you mentioned there were two kits for the ABS. One was the $800 the other was just the shuttle valve for $70. So I bought it hoping after replacing it and getting a code clear, that everything would be dandy. Ring a bell yet?

As for having a mechanic do it for me, you may be right. But I wanted to at least look at it to see how hard it would be to replace. The valve came with three screws..seems like an easy fix. I just didn't want to get into it to realize I needed to do something other than take out three screws, replace valve, replace three screws.

Don't mean to intrude on this forum but when the ABS light comes on, is there a code reader for it or is it just saying something is wrong with your ABS?

I have a 97 Disco 1

for what its worth... I have never taken an ABS unit out before but i managed to take the ABS unit out, take out the shuttle valve, and replace it all within 45 minutes. And then it only took me about another 30 to bleed the brakes. Its really easy.

Oh and if you do it yourself: take a contact cleaner (CRC) and spray out the two "contacts" that are made from the shuttle valve on the inside of the modulator and let it sit for about 5 min, turn it over and drain out all the cleaner then let it air dry for about another 10 min. then replace the shuttle valve.

So far no more 3-amigo's for me

Discovery I's can do the "paper clip" reader. Google it and you will find out a way to pull the ABS fuse, and jump two of the connections on the OBD II port. Then the ABS light will flash a sequence of numbers. Those numbers will correspond to a code.

ONLY FOR DISCOVERY I's

With the ignition on, but the vehicle not running jump pin 5 to pin 15 on the ODBII connecter.

List of "blink codes"
codes
