So I am new to Land Rover, bought an '03 Discovery SE7 in August. I loved the car, until... Dec. 3rd I was driving down the road when the oil light came on and the engine began to make a clunking noise. As I started to pull over, the engine stalled and wouldn't turn over. Land Rover customer service informed methat the warranty ran out 4 days prior to this, car only had 41K miles. Land Rover told me that no warranty means no warranty and that I would be on the hook for a new engine at a cost of $11,000. So for a month and a half the car has sat dead, while I've gone back and forth with Land Rover. I've learned that the '03 and'04 Discoverys are prone to an issue with the oil pump that causes the engine to fail. Land Rover knows about it, and issued a tech bulletin about it. I've gone through 3 different people at Land Rover including their Board of Appeals, all told me to take a hike.The Better Business Bureau is helping me now and we go to arbitration this week under California Lemon Law. Has anyone had anything like this. I dont know that I would ever buy a Land Rover again. Any thoughts?

I'm sorry to hear about the engine. It's a shame you have togo through so much trouble for somethingLandRover knows is a defect. I think Rover should issue a recall for such a nasty defect.

This is also of particular concern for me because mine is a 2003 as well.

Does anybody know if there's anything preventative we can do tokeep our 03's from self-destructing their engines in that way?
