Lightbulb Discovery II Supercharged Style Grille

I've been wanting to do something different with the Disco, but there's not much out there in the way of mods that aren't off-road related.

I wanted to give my grille a more modern feel.

I searched around on eBay and found a seller that drills stock grilles and paints them for a ridiculous amount of money (around $300).

So I thought to myself, why not give it a go? What's the worst that could happen?

I grabbed a drill, a ruler, and some masking tape, and went to work.

Here are my results:

I think everything came out quite nice.

I finished it off with some clear, and I'll be reinstalling tomorrow if the weather holds out down here in South Florida.

Nice, I was thinking about cutting the crossing pieces out and using the heavy screen material to make the homemade Saudi Spec Hot Climate grill, but I kind of like this idea for added air flow! I could always start here, and then move to the screen if I do not like it, or mess it up.

What dimensions did you use for your grid to draw-up the diagram to drill by?

Like this:

This grid represents the horizontal slats on the grill.

Divided in half horizontally, and then each half is divided in half again.

Vertical marks are made every 1/2" from the left and holes are drilled in a staggered pattern.

I think it looks great!! Just hope those hole don't become whistles while at speed creating an annoying frequency.
