Default Distributor Cap and Router???

Hello All,

This is my first post in the forum...anyway I have an 03' disco that i purchased about 4 months back and it has just over 45000 miles. And i think im having a problem with the distributor cap and router. When i accelerate i lose rpms and the disco tends to shrug a little until i get more up to speed. The service engine light comes on when i accelerate and i used my obd reader on the comp. system and the codes were tending to be for the distributor cap and router. My question is has anyone changed the distributor cap and router on their 03 and up disco and if so was it difficult or should i have the dealership change it for an arm and a leg??? Also i can’t seem to find any auto parts store that carries the parts except for the local dealership so i was wondering if anyone had insight as to where to find one at a reasonable price

Those codes were P0300, P0301, P0306

Thanks

the 03 uses coil packs in place of the traditional cap and rotor. those typically dont have problems so try changing out the spark plug wires and plugs first. like most, i recommend magnecor 8mm. also, post up the codes you read so we have a better idea of whats going on.

I highly doubt you have an issue with your coil packs, but who knows? You have a couple of options that you probably know already.

90% of the ignition issues we see on this board are related to the wires. They are a high-fail item and we recommend tossing the OEM Bosch for Magnecor, 8mm. They are more reliable and carry more voltage. You can top them with the platinum +4 or the champion rover only plugs <- I've never seen those. I've been using +4 fusions for 1500 miles so far and I'm having no issues.

It is not the simplist task, but it can be done without taking off the air intake manifold. If you have secondary air you will have to remove the intake manifold. While you are in there, double check all of the wiring going to the coils. I recommend calling Tony at Cerrones, 650-365-4145, for your parts. He uses quality stuff, and can send you those magnecors for about 100 bucks.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, you can see I have an '03 as well. BTW, have you taken her in for the 45 k services, and when you bought it, did you see if your truck was in for the 30k service?

Let's not guess, what were or are the exact fault codes, if you don't have them then get them and get back to us with them.
