Does 2004 D2 use transponder key?
I've read in some places they do not use a chip in the key and other places I read there is no chip/antenna ring/transponder system. Which is it?
(I'm asking because I am considering installing a Bulldog remote start.)

No transponder. You can start the car with a metal key, assuming the security system was set to disarm with the key and not just the remote.
Some markets have passive immobilization, but it doesn't work quite like a transponder key. It would still start even if passive was enabled.

Hi, you may well be right - I don't know for sure.
This is an interesting write up about keys, I'm not saying it applies to the D2 or LR's though, but make interesting and informative reading.

Thank you gentleman. I think I’m going to pull the trigger on a Bulldog system and see what happens. Part of me hates to hack up factory wiring but the lazy part of me really wants remote start.
