Does Kinver Sand Really Add Value?
Is there a premium for rare color when we are going to be covering it in mud? I came across this listing on ebay, and it is incredibly maintained, good paint, CDL, and low-ish mileage. I know this has been discussed in the past but is the consensus still the same a few years later, with even less discos on the road? I think the starting bid is a reasonable sale price, not a starting bid, and love the color but its obviously an urban off-roader. Thoughts?

Special Editions run a higher cost, but colors not really. That is the same D2 that was for sale maybe 1-2 years in the Dallas area. At the time I think it was listed for $3,500.00-$4,000.00. However it does look like it's been cleaned up a bit since then and those are not the wheels it had on it before. I think it had Proline wheels on it before.

No, if anything kinversand detracts value because it's undesirable. Occasionally people confuse "rare" with "desirable".
I do love this BS line though "I contacted LRNA last year and asked if they would confirm this and the responded they would not confirm because it would “affect the value of other Disco’s not in this color.”
Written as if LR would EVER care about resale values on early 2000s Discovery vehicles, which is completely absurd.

Hard to beat a small community of knowledgeable folks who track a small pool of vehicles. Nice!!!!

My Kinversand Disco from Dallas
Wow, lucky me, I just found this thread a few months after the fact. That's the listing (gone now) of the truck I bought. Flew down to Dallas and drove it back to the NE Pennsylvania region with only stops for gas and one sleep, zero faults or issues on the trip. I won't mention what I eventually paid for it, but it was cleaned up to the nines and has absolutely zero frame rot (bore scope used). Since then, I've dealt with the usual Disco issues, fitted a genuine black thermostat, throttle body heater plate kit, ScanGauge, belt tension pulley, both idlers, belt, steering pump and hoses, viscous clutch, etc. Big issue I face now is that I have a lower end knock, barely noticeable at cold and more pronounced when hot, not audible at all when over 2000 rpm. But ALWAYS there below 2000. Oil pressure figures are good (13 psi hot idle) so in I go to change the main and big end rod bearings. Going to do oil pump gears, timing, kit, and will check out the look of the cam bearings too. Will eventually pull the rocker covers (leaking) and mic the rockers and shafts. But I absolutely love the color. I could care less about the value or lack of, its the color I've been looking for, and besides it's relative rarity, it really turns heads. Even pulling thru the pizza hut drive thru can get me a "Hey, love the color of your jeep!" The NanoCom has been a bacon-saver on more than one occasion too. But for me, this color makes it a keeper. My middle-son (he's 10) has fallen in love with it and it's now "his" truck. So yes, it's got it's issues, and once the 2" TF lift is fitted, I get my Kalahari grill and Kalahari Typhoon 16" wheels installed (I don't particularly like the six-spoke 18"s) I finally have my ideal Disco! :\ So Kinversand has won me over, sorry to bring up an old thread but I have a lot of free time on my hands here. Hope everyone is staying safe, good luck to you all!
