Default The Dreaded Oil Light

I am a new member but have found the posts extremely helpful over the years. After my oil pressure light came on and researching all the posts concerning an imminent demise of my engine I went straight to the hart of the matter and pulled the oil pan expecting to see mass amounts of sludge, or worse, aluminum. I found neither. There was a small amount of sludge in the sump (less than 1/16") and no indication of metal. Where does that leave me - a bad switch?

Any insight will be appreciated....Dan

Possible. You could pull the switch and plug in a mechanicle gauge to check it. I don't remember of hearing of many switches going bad though.

Here is your inspection criteria for the oil pump. Can't take the credit for this section out of the Manual, I grabbed if from someone else on the forum. For whatever reason it is not in my RAVE manual.

First stop driving it. What year is it, how many miles on it, what weight oil are you using and how often do you change it?
The first thing you have to do is get an oil pressure test done, stone cold, test at idle and 2000 RPM's then at operating temp, at idle and 2000 RPM's and get back to us with the 4 sets of numbers.
