Yeah, like I said, start with that. But, that is also where the oil pump (housed in the front cover) puts the pressure back into the block. That was where mine was leaking, and it got really bad. It was only leaking from one spot.

The cheapest quote I got was $900 to have a shop do it. I did it myself in 2 days, but I also replaced the timing chain, rod bearings, and rear X seal on the crank. Front main seal and water pump gasket will be needed as well. I spent $300 and 2 days in the garage. You dont have to pull the crossmember on a D1 to get the pan off, but you will have to pull the connecting rod and sway bar to have enough room.

Oil PSI sending unit, replace that first, mine had a good leak after I boughtn it and that was the culprit, $13 at AutoZone.
Your really going to hate that truck if you spend 3 weeks replacing the front cover and then find out it was a $13 part all along.

LOL. It's all fun and games until you spring a leak at your front cover!!!! I still have a little left to do on mine but I got the oil pan back up and it's mostly back together...I fired it up just to make sure I didn't totally screw something up when I did the timing chain. She fired right up.

I'm convinced that you can't appreciate L.R. engineering until you've ripped off that front cover.
